Interactive Kitsch

Okay, so I decided to take some time between classes to get on today and find some new kitsch for you all. I still don' t have internet at home, but I'm glad I decided to update, because today's entry is a doozy. Remember that fabulous series of books (read: Christian commercialization ploy) "Left Behind"? Well, guess what? Now, you can wage war as either believers or the Antichrist in:

That's right! A Left Behind game! I'm sure the Christian gaming community is practically salivating with anticipation. Alright, now, maybe as a self-proclaimed intellectual I'm not really supposed to play video games, but, confession: I do, and I love it. I love playing video games, and this is really upsetting to me. I mean, when will the media stop?! First the books, then the kids books, then the movies, then the prequels, and now, a video game?! If old, Christian, white people start playing video games, I'm selling my Playstation and moving to China to start an orphanage.

According to the site, Left Behind Games, the game is a RTS. For those of you not down with the lingo, that's nerdish for "Real-Time Strategy", which means it's like Warcraft. You commmand various armies trying to conquer each other and so you control different units and move them around the board like chess. I'm not a big fan of RTSes, but I have to admit, it's a good pick for a Christian video game, because there is violence, but you view your characters from a distance, not getting too personally involved, so you don't have to worry about the moral ramifications, kind of like how most Christians deal with poor people.

I'm sure that if Christians are as good at making video games as they are at making movies, we're all in for a real treat. [/sarcasm]

Reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Bart is playing the Flanders' Christian video game while Rod & Tod Flanders watch.
Rod or Tod: "Go! Go! Convert the heathen!"
Bart: "Got him!"
Tod or Rod: "No, you just winged him and made him a Unitarian!"

Can you play either side in this game? Can I be the antiChrist?

Allen: Hilarious reference.

You can't be the Antichrist, but you can control his army. I know this is just some vast ploy by Satan to raise up a well-trained antiChrist by VR simulation training.
